A Word From Walter
Many patterns that leave us feeling anxious, stuck, or disconnected began as understandable responses to earlier experiences. I believe good therapy helps us understand where those patterns came from, address the wounds beneath them, and develop a freer way of relating to ourselves and the people we love.
I have specialized training as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) and Certified Trauma Therapist (CTT), along with training in EMDR Levels I and II and the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP). I also have training and experience using Internal Family Systems (IFS), often called “parts work,” and my approach is informed by attachment and family-systems perspectives. In my work with couples, I draw from Gottman Method Couples Therapy Levels I and II, and I am certified to provide Prepare/Enrich premarital counseling.
These trainings give me a range of resources to draw from rather than relying on a single approach. My style is collaborative, thoughtful, and appropriately direct. Depending on what the work requires, we may explore the roots of current patterns, process traumatic experiences, attend to the nervous system, better understand different parts of the self, or develop practical tools for healthier relationships. The therapy I provide is tailored to your needs and goals.
Over the past seven years I have worked in both residential and outpatient settings with adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, and families. My experience includes individual, couples, family, and group therapy. Additionally, I spent nearly 5 years working in a specialized residential treatment center, where I provided intensive, in-depth therapy for individuals and their families facing complex trauma, addiction, and relational challenges. I especially enjoy group therapy and the opportunity it creates for people to experience honesty, connection, accountability, and growth alongside others.
I earned an M.A. in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary and a B.A. in Philosophy with a minor in History from the University of South Alabama.
Outside the therapy room, I enjoy running, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, baking, and getting lost in a good audiobook.
***At The Finding Place Counseling, we believe therapy should fit you, not the other way around. Every treatment plan is thoughtfully personalized to your unique needs. For many clients, traditional 60 minute sessions provide the support they need. However, others—especially couples, those traveling far, or clients navigating more complex concerns—may highly benefit from longer sessions, therapy intensives, or group therapy. That’s why we offer a range of options, including 60 minute sessions, extended therapy sessions (90 minutes to 2 hours), weekend therapy intensives (1, 2, or 3 day formats), and group therapy for both men and women. By carving out intentional, uninterrupted time, you create the space to lean fully into therapy, explore your story more deeply, and experience meaningful, lasting change.
Experience Restoration & Freedom
Many people don’t get the results they want from therapy because insurance and standard session lengths get in the way of treating root issues.
The Finding Place Counseling in Little Rock, AR is a private counseling center that offers custom therapy intensives to help clients quickly achieve breakthroughs on the road to restoration and freedom.
