To the Partner of a Man struggling with Sexual Addiction
Did you recently discover your husband has been unfaithful? Did you just become aware of the depths of his porn use? Has your trust been shattered? You’re in shock. You’re devastated. Does it feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you and you don’t know what’s up or what’s down? You don’t want a divorce, but how do you pick up the pieces and move forward? Do you feel alone?
You’ve known for years your partner has struggled with sexual acting out. Perhaps you’ve turned a blind eye to keep the marriage together. Perhaps you both are open about it. You thought if you just were the perfect wife or monitored his every move, his addiction would stop. Maybe you’ve sought counseling before to help resolve your husband’s unfaithfulness, but he just can’t seem to stop?!
You’re not alone. There is hope.
First and foremost, there are 3 big things you must know:
1) You likely have Betrayal Trauma.
2) There is hope of recovery for both the traumatized and the addict
3) You need to work with a fully Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). CSAT therapists navigate these waters daily with clients. Work with a specialist, it will make all the difference.
4) There are free groups you can attend for support for both the addict and the partners of addicts. We highly recommend attending these groups along with recovery therapy with a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist.
